In Iran, more than 50,000 deaths and more than one million infections have been registered since the outbreak of the Corona pandemic at the end of February. According to the Ministry of Health on Saturday, there have been 321 deaths and 12,151 new infections within 24 hours. This puts the total number of corona deaths in the past nine months at 50,016 and the number of infections at 1,028,986, said Ministry spokeswoman Sima Lari on state television, as reported by the APA.

In order to stop the drastic increase in the number of cases in Iran, a strict lockdown was imposed in the capital Tehran and other large and small cities in the past two weeks. Since then, the number of cases has not increased further, but neither has it decreased significantly. Nevertheless, the lockdown should be relaxed again from Saturday. The scientific wing of the Corona Crisis Staff is against it, but the political-economic wing is in favor of it, so as not to endanger the financial existence of the citizens. The country with 82 million inhabitants is one of the states that are particularly hard hit by the pandemic.
